The natural remedies for high blood pressure are easy to follow and completely easy option to adopt when it comes to one’s health. Lowering blood pressure naturally is possible to do and easy on top of that! Many people with pre-hypertension or people with risk factors for developing high blood pressure can lower his or her blood pressure without medication or costly doctors’ visits, if they follow a few lifestyle changes.
Weight:
Lose those extra pounds! Many people carrying a few (or more) extra pounds can lower his or her blood pressure by simply not carrying around more than needed. As little as five pounds can make a huge difference. Decreasing the amount of salt and sodium in a meal is a good start to shedding some extra water weight. Picking up a fruit or vegetable to snack on instead of something full of sugar or fat is another thing that can easily be done to lose some weight without going on a crash diet.
Alcohol:
Save some money at the bar! Decrease the amount of alcoholic beverages consumed daily, if a typical night out consists of 3 drinks, cut it in half, save some money, and naturally lower blood pressure. A healthy amount of alcohol varies based on medical conditions, but a healthy male should consume no more than two drinks per day (24 oz of beer, 10 oz of wine, 3 oz of heavier liquor) a healthy female should cut the male’s intake in half.
Caffeine:
Make a half of pot of coffee in the morning. Caffeine can raise blood pressure by tightening blood vessels and restricting blood flow to the body. If a typical coffee drinker drinks 2-4 cups per day, cut that amount in half or switch to a decaffeinated brand. Sodas and teas with high levels of caffeine have the same affect on the body. Caffeine also effects people’s way of dealing with stress.
Stress:
Take a deep breath, relax, and shrug off what a happened during the rush hour traffic drive home. Learning to deal with stress and maintaining a way to deal with it is important to lower blood pressure naturally. People are put in stressful situations daily, learning how to respond and react to them is important in keeping a clear mind as well as a healthy blood pressure.
Exercise:
Take your dog for a walk, he will enjoy the company and it will help naturally lower blood pressure in a few ways. A walk is not only exercise, but a stress reliever as well. Finding something you enjoy to do, that is not just sitting around watching television, will help develop an exercise plan. A day at the gym is not always needed, but a daily routine will help blood circulation, stress, and excess weight removal. Dog walks, yoga, simple stretching, or a trip up the stairs (instead of the elevator at work) will not only help one’s weight but will give you time to clear one’s mind.

The above article is very useful. But it does n’t say anything about smoking and its effects.

Regarding your question on smoking, it has not been really proven that it will increase your blood pressure directly.
But smoking do play a big role in damaging your blood vessels wall and it speeds up the hardening of the arteries.
All these can lead to the development of high blood pressure. Smoking also increase your risk your getting a stroke, heart disease and lung cancer.
