Altace is also commonly known as Tritace or Ramipril. The drug is effective in treating high blood pressure which are caused by heart failure and it can help to improve the survival chances of a patient after heart attack.
Basically, Altace is an enzyme inhibitor used for Angiotension conversion and is part of the ACE group (Angiotension Converting Enzyme). ACE inhibitors reduce the production of Angiotensin II slowly which will help to relax the arteries in the muscles. Also, by dilating arteries, Altace allows the passage of more blood to the heart.
Uses of Altace

- Used by victims of heart attacks or patients suffering from heart problems.
- Recommended for patients above 55 years old. Helps to prevent against myocardial infection, stroke, cardiovascular issues or for revascularization needs.
- Altace must be taken with prescriptions or approval from your doctor.
- Altace must not be consumed during pregnancy or even pregnancy planning. It can cause harm to the embryo. Doctor must be consulted and he must know about your conditions.
- Do drink at least 6 glasses of water a day because Altace will lower your blood pressure and may lead to electrolyte disorders or kideny failures.
- Do not take potassium supplements without the consent from your doctor.
Initially, the dose for Altace should be at 1.25 mg daily. The dose can range from 2.5 mg to 20 mg at a later stage depending on the recommendation by your doctor. The drug must be taken according to your doctor’s instructions and supervision.
Altace should be taken with a full glass of water. You may also consume it with the accompany of some food. Store Altace at room temperature, away from heat and light.
Possible Side Effects
There might be swelling of mouth, throat or tongue. May also cause dizziness, headache, tiredness, cough, pale skin bruising or bleeding. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience other unusual symptoms not listed above.
